A local MP is supporting a UK-wide ‘HeadSmart Campaign’ to raise awareness amongst parents and healthcare professionals of the symptoms of brain tumours in children and young people.
Mark Durkan, SDLP, is to attend an event in the House of Commons today hosted by The Brain Tumour Charity to learn first hand how to recognise the symptoms of a brain tumour.
The MP will see the resources developed by the charity, including symptom cards and an innovative smartphone app to help people recognise the symptoms of a brain tumour.
Mr Durkan said: “Around 500 children and young people are diagnosed with a brain tumour each year – nearly ten a week. Early diagnosis is crucial”.
He urged all parents to get hold of the symptom card or download the smartphone app.
