A footballer who almost lost his life when his heart stopping beating during the Milk Cup in 2011 has urged young people from Derry to take advantage of free heart health screening being offered in the city this month.
Chris McNeill was only 17 when he suffered a cardiac arrest in an experience similar to that of Bolton midfielder Fabrice Muamba.
“I’m fortunate enough to say I lived to tell the tale, but very few have that chance. My world was turned upside down in an instant, my heart had stopped for 10-15 minutes and I very nearly lost my life. I’m proud to say my story is a successful one, but this is so rarely the case. We can change that.”
A free screening clinic, run by CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) is being held on July 26-27 in Derry and I can’t urge you enough to go and get checked out. If you’re involved in sport in any way and at any level, you owe it to yourself, your friends, and your family, to get screened.”
