The annual Messin’ With The Music (MWTM) project will return to the Art Reaching Communities Centre (ARC) in Galliagh from July 6th to 9th.
The project is being offered for free thanks to funding from Arts Council NI and Greater Shantallow Community Arts, and will be run and facilitated by Mark Black and Caolan McLaughlin.
MWTM invites young musicians and beginners aged between 14 and 17 to take part in a relaxed, creative music-making initiative.
A spokesman said that the project was designed for those who want to rock out with their own music and with like-minded peers.
“In a nut shell, you’ll learn and gain experience in the components of being in a band, writing and then performing an original song written within your band as part of a showcase for the project finale,” he said.
“This is also a space to perform whatever you want. It’s your gig. The project will be lead by two very experienced, passionate, professional musicians/ mentors with a special guest talker.
“All levels of expertise are welcome within the age group, including complete beginners. As long as there’s a passion for music there’s a potential place.”
Deadline for applications is next Wednesday, July 1st anytime and successful applicants will be notified on July 2nd.
The project, which has been running successfully since 2011, takes place on Monday 6th from 2pm to 6pm, Tue 7th from 12pm to 4pm, Wed 8th from 2pm to 6pm, and Thur 9th from 2pm to 9pm.
The final night will be gig night and a free pre-gig pizza evening.
Light refreshments will also be laid on throughout the whole project.
