Free school meals entitlement

Is your child entitled to Free School Meals/School Uniform and/or Physical Education Clothing Allowance?

If you have not yet applied for the Free School Meals/School Uniform entitlement and/or the Physical Education Clothing Allowance for this current school year 2010/2011, the Western Education and Library Board (WELB) would encourage you to do so.

A pupil will be entitled to the Free School Meals/School Uniform and/or the Physical Education Clothing Allowance where:-the parent/guardian is in receipt of Income Support or Income-Based Job Seekers Allowance, or Income-Related Employment and Support Allowance, or if a pupil claims Income Support in their own name; or the parent/guardian receives the Guarantee Element of State Pension Credit; or the parent/guardian receives Child Tax Credit and is not receiving Working Tax Credit because they work less than 16 hours per week and have an annual taxable income of £16,190 or less; or he/she is the child of an Asylum Seeker supported by the Home Office National Asylum Support Service (NASS); or the parent/guardian receives Working Tax Credit and has an annual taxable income which does not exceed £16,190. *(Please note – only those pupils in full-time Nursery, Primary and Special Schools who were born on or after 2 July 2002 will be eligible to apply under this criteria for 2010/2011 school year).

*Note: The Clothing Scheme does not apply to pupils in attendance at Nursery Schools, Nursery Units or Reception Classes.

Free School Meals can also be awarded if your child has a statement of special educational needs and is designated to require a special diet.

How to apply? Only one application form is required to be completed which can be obtained by contacting the Western Education and Library Board’s Benefits Section on 028 8241 1496 or you may also download it from the Board’s homepage www.welbni.org.
