Friday’s Child Neil Devlin

This week’s Friday’s Child is manager of the Everglades Hotel in Derry Neil Devlin. Belfast man Neil took the reins at the hotel in 2012 and on Friday night picked up the Hotelier of the Year award (see page 38). He is now an adopted Derry man and has even got himself a Derry woman - Leanne Young.

I am an energetic , hardworking, Happy YOUNG man.

Happiest childhood memory?

Meeting the Entire Man Utd Team in 1989 at Old Trafford Players Lounge.

What was your first job?

Glass Collector AT The Joxer2 Bar in Belfast when i was 13.

Life in The Rough, Autobiography John Daly Golfer , UNREAL!

Favourite film?

Wolf On Wall Street

Favourite television programme?

Entourage

Favourite expression?

“BOOM”!

Favourite method of relaxation?

SkySPorts, Ipad & Iphone all going on at the same time with WORK Emails OFF!

Favourite holiday destination?

San Diego or Las Vegas.

Who would you most like to meet?

Santa , and ask him why has he dodged me the past few years.

What makes you happy?

When at Work :Guests Satisfaction .... When At Home... When Leanne wants to watch football.

What has been the most embarrassing thing to happen to you?

That has yet to come , when is this published? No , there has been alot, one that sticks out was coming on in The Junior Cup Final for Plunkett, Football,the game was 1-1, 30mins to go, the only game all year my entire family were at and alot of friends, with my first touch of the ball I knocked it past the left back and sprung to sprint past him , only to POP my hamstring and come off the pitch injured 30secs later. We went on to win with 10 men. Haha safe to say I gave it up from then.

What was the worst thing to happen to you in your life?

I have been very lucky in my life... But worst thing was having surgery on both shoulders when I was 18 ,that finished my hurling, Gaelic and soccer so-called careers.

What is your greatest fear?

Used to be going Bald, but I have overcome that fine..... I guess now is losing my health.

What has been the high point of your life to date?

Well Friday just past there I was awarded Hotelier of the Year during my first year as General Manager, that has to be up there.

How would you like to be remembered?

Up to I was 15yrs old , it was “The Bald George Best”, Then up to 18yrs old it was “The Bald DJ Carey”. Now I would settle for “ A While Civil Being” as they say in my adopted City here .

What is your most treasured possession?

Locked away in a wine Store in Belfast: My 1984 Chateau Lafite Rothschild Bordeaux Red Wine

If you won the lotto what would you do with it?

Open my Own Restaurant Chain, One in Belfast, One in Derry & one in Las Vegas JDevsOwn

If you could be granted one wish in life, what would you ask for?

For my wee Mammy (as we say in Derry) to see all her Weeans Wed!

If you could write your own epitaph what would it be?

Haha ....For Sale : “£2 a rose” I wanna have spending money in heaven .
