Gardai are investigating after a masked man robbed a shop in Buncrana on Thursday night, armed with what is believed to be a screwdriver.
The incident occurred at approximately 9.21pm at the ‘Cards and Candies’ shop on Buncrana Main Street.
Garda Superintendent Eugene McGovern told the ‘Journal’ the lone male entered the shop and demanded money from the female member of staff. He was armed with what it is believed to be a screwdriver. The man then went behind the till and recovered a small amount of money.
He was dressed in black and was wearing a type of balaclava over his face.
The man then made his escape. Superintendent McGovern said Gardai are appealing for information from anyone who may have seen the man before or after the robbery.
He said: “We do know he was seen on the opposite side of the street, in an alleyway, for a while prior to the crime occurring.”
He added the incident was a “very frightening experience” for the member of staff.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Buncrana Garda Station on 074 93 20540.
