An exciting new beer festival celebrating the best in local beers will take place in the Legenderry Warehouse No 1 on Saturday.
The event, called ‘Sippy of Culture’ was started by a group of friends in a kitchen in Derry two years ago is the first of its kind locally.
This all boils down to having a bit of craic and tasting some beers with like-minded people. During previous events we haven’t taken the whole thing too seriously. We just taste the beers, give them scores and the conversation grows organically from thatBrian Rainey - ‘Sippy of Culture’ organiser
As the name suggests, ‘Sippy of Culture’ started during Derry’s year City of Culture celebrations as a means to find and discuss different brews. For the first few years events have taken place at the organiser’s house, but amid growing interest on social media and among colleagues and friends, finding a larger venue was essential to enable the festival to grow.
Organising Committee member and Master of Ceremony on the night, Brian Rainey said:
“This all boils down to having a bit of craic and tasting some beers with like-minded people. During previous events we haven’t taken the whole thing too seriously. We just taste the beers, give them scores and the conversation grows organically from that. “We are really excited to be moving ‘Sippy of Culture’ to the Legenderry Warehouse No 1 so that more people can enjoy it with us. We would like to thank everyone at the Warehouse and also RoCo Hair Salon for their help and support this year.”
Tickets only cost £10 and there are a limited number still available but it will be possible for some to pay at the door on the night. Ticket price includes samples of several beers and some food.
James Huey, Masterbrewer at Walled City Brewery, is very excited at the prospect of local people sampling a true Derry beer
“The Walled City Brewery are delighted to be involved in a celebration of local hand-crafted beers through Sippy of Culture. It will be a unique chance to showcase our fantastic new brews ahead of the official opening of our premises in Ebrington Square in May.”
