The Third Colgan Heritage Weekend takes place in the Colgan Community and Resource Centre, Carndonagh, Inishowen from Friday 29th June to Sunday 1st July. The theme of the weekend is - ‘From Folklore to Facebook’.

The Colgan Heritage Group are pleased to announce that John Waters writer, playright and journalist will speak at the opening. The title of John’s talk will be ‘Was it for this?”. John will also launch his book ‘Is it for this ?’ at the launch. In his book he argues that the roots of our current problems run much deeper that our present discussions are prepared to admit. It is too easy, he says, to blame the last government, or even the banks. The real issue is out failure to claim our own nation and extend it the dignity and seriousness which the founding fathers, in every word and action, displayed. He argues that it is not surprising, then, that we have become a nation dominated by cynics and pessimists, which has again given its destiny into the hands of foreign powers.

There will be a full programme of activities over the weekend with something to suit everyone in the family. Events include a Historical Walk, Concert, Media Workshop, Street Market in Diamond with Live Music, Street Performance by Inishowen Carnival Group, Film - The Way with Martin Sheen, Book Exhibition and Sale, Lecture, Exhibition of Local Folklore from 1937 collection, Exhibition of School Children’s Work and Presentation of Prizes.
