One of the leading choir trainers in the field of church music will be visiting Derry this weekend for a number of key engagements in St Columb’s Cathedral.
Dr Martin Neary, LVO FRCO, who was Director of Music in Westminster Abbey for many years, will be giving a recital on the historic church’s newly-restored Wells-Kennedy organ on Friday at 7.30 pm.
It’s part of the Cathedral’s response to Derry City Council’s Open Night when buildings of importance and significance will be open to the public.
Dr Neary will be conducting the Cathedral Choir at Choral Matins on Sunday morning at 11am. Then, on Sunday evening at 7.00 pm, he will be directing the Choir once again in a service of choral favourites together with a series of much-loved hymns in which the congregation is most welcome to join in the singing. The hymns will be introduced by Dr Neary and the Dean of Derry, Dr William Morton.
Dean Morton said: “It is a huge honour for the Cathedral to be able to benefit so richly from the immense experience, expertise and professionalism of Dr Martin Neary, who is a musician of outstanding reputation and ability. I invite most warmly all who would like to come along to these special events in the course of the weekend.”
