A full bus service is to be put in place for the Culmore area of the city, beginning on Wednesday of this week.
It’s understood Translink have been awarded an extension to their licence and that a new timetable is in the process of being drawn up.
The news has been welcomed in the wake of the news that the Lough Swilly Bus Company, which had catered for the area as part of its routes into Donegal, has gone into liquidation.
SDLP Councillor for the area, Angela Dobbins, says she’s delighted that a full service to the area will be established.
Colr. Dobbins said: “I understand that a new timetable for the Culmore area will be drafted soon.
“Whilst it is with deep regret that the Lough Swilly service has ceased operation, I am relieved to hear that public transport for those who live in rural areas will be catered for.”
