The sports minister has reiterated her view that the withdrawal of funding will negatively impact the Foyle Cup and Milk Cup.
Culture, Arts and Leisure Minister Carál Ní Chuilín had expressed the view previously that the withdrawal of funding from the tourism events fund by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board would have an adverse impact on events across the North.
She had been asked last week about the Foyle and Milk Cup youth football tournaments specifically by East Derry MLA Claire Sugden.
The Minister replied: “Responsibility for providing funding for events including the Foyle Cup, Milk Cup and North West 200, lies in the first instance with the Department for Enterprise, Trade and Investment.”
But she acknowledged that funding issues could cause problems for events.
The minister’s written answer said: “The withdrawal of the funding from the tourism events fund has the potential to have a negative impact on the above competitions and other events”
