Derry’s Holywell Trust has been congratulated for securing a grant to fund a history project on the city’s Walls.
Derry City Councillor, Mark H Durkan, has welcomed the award of a Heritage Lottery Fund grant of £446,700 to fund the project exploring the history of the Walls. He said: “As we approach the 400th anniversary of the walls this project will explore their history and their symbolism. Local people will have input into the project and will also benefit greatly from it. It is only through understanding our divided past that we will be able to embrace a shared future.
“The staging of events on the walls will also enhance them as a tourism experience and I hope that they are done in conjunction with existing tour providers to maximise their potential impact.”
