Sinn Fein Greater Shantallow Councillor Tony Hassan has welcomed over £130,000 in funding for the area’s Residents’ Association.
The Department for Social Development (DSD) has announced the cash injection into the Shantallow Community Residents Association.
A total of £133,700 is to be handed over.
Colr Hassan said “This is good news for the local residents association. The funding will help them expand the services they provide for the people of the Shantallow area.
“This work will included the likes of maintenance toolkit for homes, winter support and improvement schemes.”
He added: “It has been proven time and time again if we invest in communities it can go a long in helping improve the lives of local residents.”
The DSD said that the Residents’ Association in Derry provided a range of services for people of all ages, such as after school clubs, women’s groups and community clean-ups.
Officials said the new investment will enable them to expand their services for the communities across the Outer North and Outer West Neighbourhood Renewal Areas.
In confirming the funding DSD Minister Nelson McCausland said: “The Shantallow Community Residents’ Association delivers vital services to the people of the local area.
“The funding will allow the organisation to expand its services for the most vulnerable members of society.
“This investment of £133,700 is a clear example of the Executive working to deliver for our most disadvantaged local communities.
“It will enable the Association to support vulnerable households, who are currently struggling to maintain their home and garden, to create and sustain a safe and good quality home environment.”
