Funeral of Paddy ‘Bogside’ Doherty tomorrow

The veteran civil rights activist Paddy Doherty, who was better known as Paddy Bogside, passed away after a period of illness pictured at Free Derry Corner.

A huge turnout is expected to attend the funeral of Paddy ‘Bogside’ Doherty tomorrow, Sunday 10th January.

Mr Doherty passed away peacefully at his home in the Bogside on Thursday. He was in his 90th year.

He leaves behind a wife Eileen and children John, Hugh, Declan, Kieran, Roisin, Brendan, Eileen, Kathleen, Paddy-Ann, Kevin, Fiona and Nuala.

Mr Doherty was pre-deceased by another daughter, Doreen.

Mr Doherty’s remains will be removed at 11.45am on Sunday, travelling the short distance to St. Eugene’s Cathedral for Mass at 12.30pm.

Interment will take place immediately afterwards in the City Cemetery.
