The official 12 week training programme for the Waterside Half Marathon started this week.

The race, which will take place on Sunday September 6, is now in its 34th year.

Last year saw a bumper turnout for the race which attracts thousands of runners of all abilities, and with a new route taking in some of the city’s most scenic areas, entries are already starting to flood in.

This year the Half Marathon makes a welcome return to St Columb’s Park, where it first began 34 years ago, and Council’s Festival and Events Manager Karan Leonard said feedback about the new route has been hugely positive.

“We’re delighted that the new route has been so well received and registrations are already picking up. The 12-week training schedule marks the official countdown to the race for runners, so I would encourage people to register early to avoid disappointment.

Entries are now officially open and will close on August 21. For the full training schedule and advice on how to prepare for the Waterside Half Marathon event, as well as registration details go to www.whm15.com.
