Plans for a multi-million pound sports centre in Dungiven have advanced to the next stage, writes Sheena Jackson.

The project was stalled in June after unionists on the Causeway, Coast & Glens shadow council said they weren’t satisfied with the level of information available on the project. However, a design team has now been appointed and Sinn Fein Colr. Dermot Nicholl said the project should start in 2015, but on a smaller scale and in phases.

“The design team will provide us with a more definitive costing and options which will be brought back for approval,” said Colr Nicholl, who added the project has been modified. He said it’s thought the project will cost between £3-£4 million but, with £2.5 million DCAL funding the cost to council will be approximately £1-£1.5m.
