A Grand Vintage Ball will be held in The Venue on May 4 as part of the City of Culture celebrations.
Featuring the renowned swing-pop trio, the Puppini Sisters, the event will take place during the City of Derry Jazz and Big Band Festival weekend.
The whole weekend will see a celebration of the city’s cultural past in a throwback to the styles, trends and fashions of the 1920s-1960s.
Glamour, great music, dancing and fun are guaranteed as you jive, waltz and lindy-hop the night away.
Don’t be put off if you don’t know the moves because Culture Company will be offering dance classes in the eight weeks running up to the big night. To ensure that your attire is original and authentically vintage, alteration classes will also be on offer for four weeks in April, details of which will be posted online nearer to the time.
To enjoy the full experience families can come along to Ebrington Square on the afternoon of May 4 for a festival of all things vintage where there will be opportunities for kids to take part in activities and for the ladies to get their hair and makeup perfected ahead of the ball.
If you cannot make the Saturday festivities then Sunday may be the day for you when the vintage fair moves Cityside to Pump Street and London Street.
Between 11am and 6pm vintage enthusiasts and casual admirers of all things retro can browse the Vintage Fair and sample the food, fashion, design, music and culture of bygone days.
Claire McDermott, Cultural Programmer at Culture Company commented: “There is something for everyone in the lead up to and on the weekend of the Grand Vintage Ball.”
Tickets are on sale priced at £19.50 through the Millennium Forum box office, the official City of Culture ticket provider. More info at www.cityofculture2013.com
