A bid to bring the All-Ireland Fleadh to Derry during the City of Culture year has been given the green light to progress.

Delegates of the Derry Comhaltas voted 13-1 in favour of bringing the fleadh to the city in 2013 at a meeting last night (Wed).

The bid now moves to the next stage, where it needs ratification by the Comhaltas Ulster Council.

Sinn Féin Junior Minister, Martina Anderson, welcomed the outcome of the meeting.

“I hope that the bid now successfully proceeds through the remaining stages of the ratification procedures and we can look forward to staging what will be a spectacular display of Irish culture in our City in 2013,” she says.
