“I am absolutely delighted as a native of the area who has been a member of the Magilligan Community Association for many years to know that, at long last, the local community is about to have a new, well designed community building that will be fit-for purpose and serve the needs of everyone in the area for years to come,” said Mr. Mullan.

“I am in no doubt that this project would not have been delivered without the downright dogged determination and teamwork of all the committee members.

“The support of council officers in both the old Limavady legacy council and the new Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has also been invaluable in helping to get this project across the line as was the assistance of an independent consultant, Mrs Bridget Duggan, who mentored the group and put together such a compelling business case.

“This is such exciting news for all concerned at Magilligan Community Association and hopefully the contractor will be on site very soon so that the construction work can begin.”

The Assemblyman said that when the new community centre is completed, the new building “will be such an invaluable resource for the whole community for decades to come”.

Sinn Féin MLA for East Derry, Caoimhe Archibald also welcomed the news.

Caoimhe Archibald said: “I am delighted that the Community Centre has been given the go ahead to proceed to the next stage. The Community Association has put a lot of work into this project; myself and our council group team have worked with them to support this project over the past number of months.

“Despite it’s deteriorated state, the existing community centre is a hub of activity so it is fantastic news that a new modern facility has been given the go ahead.”

Sinn Féin councillor Brenda Chivers added: “This is great news for the Magilligan community and we will continue to support this project in council through to delivery of the new build.”
