The family of Paddy Harkin who died tragically last weekend have thanked the people of Derry for supporting them over the last week.

Mr Harkin died after an incident in his flat on Bayview Terrace on Sunday, February 20.

He was buried on Saturday following Requiem Mass in St Mary’s Church, Creggan.

During the Mass Creggan Parish Priest Father Stephen McLaughlin described Mr. Harkin as an incredibly generous man with “gentle qualities.”

Paying tribute to local people the Harkin family said: “During what was an excruciatingly painful period for all of us it was reassuring to know that we had such strong support from the community. “We would now like to begin rebuilding our lives and it will be made much easier knowing that support is there.

“We would like to thank the media who have to date respected our privacy.”
