Derry’s male widowers are being invited to “talk to men in similar situations” at meetings of a new support group in the city.
Foyle Men’s Bereavement Support Group at Foyle Widowers provides a safe environment for men to talk about loss and issues that might be distressing or difficult to discuss with other family members, relatives or close friends. Its aim is to allow men to support each other in complete confidence through sharing their experiences of losing a loved one.
A spokesman for the group said it was formed because of the “need in Derry” for an outlet allowing widowed men to talk about their experiences
“We’ve found that Derry men who are widowed really need to talk about their experiences. The group gives men, who may never before have talked of their loss, the opportunity to do so in a relaxed environment with people in the same situation as themselves, even if they want to come along and listen that’s alright too.
“If there are issues that people may need help with, we’ll put them in touch with the appropriate people to get the help tbey need. We are inviting all men who are bereaved to come along and have a cuppa and a chat.”
Meetings of the group are held once a month. The next meeting of Foyle Men’s Bereavement Support Group will take place at The Playhouse tomorrow (Wednesday) from 7.30pm to 9pm. For further information on the group please contact 028 71 268027.
