A Derry-born cancer specialist has been recognised for excellence in medical science.
Professor Patrick Johnston, Dean of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences at Queen’s University, Belfast, has been elected to the Fellowship of the Academy of Medical Sciences.
Professor Johnston has been honoured for outstanding contributions to the advancement of medical science and, in particular, his work on cancer research and treatment of patients.
Professor Johnston said: “I am delighted to have been elected a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences. It is an honour and privilege to have had my contribution to medical science, in particular my contribution to cancer research and cancer patients, recognised in this way.”
Professor Johnston will be formally admitted to the Academy at a ceremony in London next month.
