Following the recent closure of further beds at Carndonagh Community Hospital the Liaison Group has called a public meeting for this Friday night at 8pm in the Colgan Hall.
A spokesperson said: “This is a critically important meeting for the community, both in terms of bed closures and the reorganisation of ambulance services. Constituency representatives and the HSE have been invited to attend. It is vital that a strong message is, once again, sent to the government and the HSE that this community will not accept any cuts in the levels required to provide a safe and an appropriate service to the region.
“The recent closure of ten beds in the hospital (six in the main hospital and four in the Alzheimer’s Unit) is not acceptable.
“The effects of the recruitment embargo within the HSE has had a disproportionate effect on our hospital and needs immediate redress.
There has been widespread concern locally that the beds could be closed permanently.
