A Dungiven care worker is celebrating after being recognised for her “exceptional” work.

The North West Healthcare Group, based at North West Independent Hospital, Ballykelly, is the domiciliary care division of North West Healthcare Group and its staff provides care to hundreds of people in their own homes every day.

This week it said it acknowledges the hard work and dedication of their employees through a series of annual awards.

“North West Care ‘The Carer of the Year” award was recently launched as an acknowledgement to professional carers within North West Care who make a real difference in local communities.

Staff within North West Care were nominated in recognition of their commitment and dedication to the people they care for,” said a spokesperson.

“All care staff were eligible for nomination by the people they care for on a daily basis”.

This year the award went to mum-of-four Ita Conway for her “outstanding work as a domiciliary care worker in the Dungiven area”.

Ita has been a carer for nine years and says she loves her job. “I was absolutely delighted, thrilled,” she says of the accolade. “All the carers are great carers and the patients voted, but all the carers do a great job so it was probably hard for the patients to pick one carer!”

Ita describes her job as “a very rewarding job because the patients appreciate everything you do for them. There are parts that are sad, but you just do your best and hopefully everything works out.”

Ita said what makes her job easier is the “great team of managers at work that are extremely helpful and that makes a big difference”.

Ita added: “You get to meet so many people and it’s great to give back to the community and be involved because there are always people that need the carers.”

The North West Healthcare group says it recognises the significant role that all carers in a professional environment undertake each day. Ita was presented with a gift voucher for The Roe Park Resort in Limavady for her outstanding work. Ita received her award from Shauna Irwin, Operations Manager & Helena Lynch, co-ordinator for Limavady and Dungiven.

Shauna Irwin, Operations Manager (pictured left) praised the Dungiven woman for her work, and congratulated her on winning the award.

“Ita is exceptional at delivering care – one of many carers with these qualities within the organisation,” said Shauna, adding: “Congratulations to her on winning this award.”
