Lisa wins award for work at Neonatal Unit

A local Occupational Therapist has been honoured for her work in Altnagelvin’s Neonatal Unit.

Lisa Campbell who has been awarded the first Leckey Award for Allied Health Professionals in Children’s Services in the 2016 Advancing Healthcare Awards NI.

Lisa, who is a Principal Paediatric Occupational Therapist with the Western Health and Social Care Trust, won the award for her pioneering work in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Altnagelvin Hospital.

Lisa has been working to embed a role for occupational therapy, with a follow-on therapy service in the community.

Commenting on the Winner of the First Lecky Award, the judging panel said: “Lisa Campbell showed real teamwork and leadership skills.

“Occupational therapy involvement in the neonatal intensive care unit helps parents to care for their tiny babies and develop parenting skills and Lisa showed real leadership skills in setting up this service and establishing this vital role.”

Congratulating Lisa, Helena Doherty, Western Trust Head of Occupational Therapy, said: “Lisa, in partnership with her physiotherapy colleague, Kate McShane, has been delivering the highest standard of care to premature babies.

“This service provides ongoing intervention, guidance and support for staff and families to nurture the development of neonatal infant care, such as handling, positioning and promoting parent and infant interaction.”

Lisa received her award from James Leckey, Chief Executive of James Leckey Design at the Europa Hotel.
