If you are currently experiencing low mood, stress or depression, Aware Defeat Depression’s Life Skills Course may be of benefit to you. The course is called ‘Living Life to the Full’ and teaches important life skills and techniques for dealing with the common problems we often notice when we are feeling down or depressed.
It uses resources developed by Dr Chris Williams, Senior Lecturer in Psychological Medicine in University of Glasgow. Dr Williams is an expert in developing many self-help resources including the well-known self-help book ‘Overcoming Depression and Low Mood – A Five Areas Approach’.
Aware has been involved in delivering these courses for over two years and the feedback from participants has been very positive, with most reporting that after attending a course they felt more confident, happier and better able to tackle negative and unhelpful thinking. As a result of Aware’s experience in delivering courses to date they have been invited to deliver two courses as part of a research project with University of Glasgow and Depression Alliance, Scotland.
The courses are scheduled to take place at Aware Defeat Depression, 56 Strand Road, Derry on Friday, February 25 - Friday, April 15; and Friday, May 13 - Friday, July 1. Both courses commence at 10am and run for eight sessions of approximately one and a half hours i.e. one session per week. Applicants must be over 16 and available on all of the above dates as due to the nature of the project participants will be randomly selected for either of the courses. Applicants must also sign a consent form to take part.
If you meet the above criteria and would like an information pack, please contact Aisling at Aware – Tel: 028 71260602 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Closing date for receipt of completed applications is Friday, April 4.
