Over 30 C-Diff cases in the Western Trust this year

There have been 33 cases of C-Diff superbug in the Western Trust region this year.

A total of 18 of the cases were hospital-related, while the remaining 15 were cases related to the community.

The Western Trust Health and Social Care Board were told at their December meeting at Altnagelvin that the number of cases was 20% lower than last year.

It was also confirmed at the meeting that it has now been over 18 months since the last MRSA superbug case at Altnagelvin Hospital.

The board was also told that rates of post-surgical infection in the Western Trust were exceptionally rare at around 0.2%.

Restrictions meanwhile remain in place at a number of wards in the hospital due to vomiting bugs.
