Organisers of a rally against any planned closure of residential care homes in Derry, Strabane and Limavady are calling for as many people as possible to come out and support this afternoon’s protest.
This is the first time residents and representatives of all four residential care homes, under threat due to a review of elderly care polcies, will come to together to protest against the changes.
Residents from Rectory Field and William Street in Derry, as well as residents from Thackeray Care Home in Limavady and Greenfield in Strabane will meet today at 2pm at Rectory Field before walking across the Peace Bridge to Guildhall Square for a rally.
They will also be joined by families of the residents of Slievemore Nursing Unit - which cares for patients with advanced dementia and has also been earmarked for closure.
There was a huge backlash when plans were announced to change from the current model of residential care for elderly residents.
The process is still under consultation by the Health Board.
