A Waterside woman has been awarded an inspiration award from the charity British Heart Foundation (BHF).
Suzanne Duncan, from Kilfennan, has been recognised for her relentless determination to succeed in the fight against heart disease.
Suzanne scooped the accolade for showing bravery in the face of adversity as she honoured her late husband Andrew’s wishes by continuing to raise awareness about the seriousness of heart failure and the importance of changing the law on consent for organ donation.
Her influence has inspired staff, volunteers, politicians and the Northern Ireland people.
Suzanne said: “I am thrilled to have received the Inspiration Award from BHF Northern Ireland. It is an honour to have been recognised and to know that my campaigning efforts are an inspiration to other supporters.
“It is a great feeling to know that I have been able to inspire others to support BHF Northern Ireland. The charity is very important to me because they have not only fought in my family’s corner but also for the thousands of people who suffer from a debilitating heart condition in Northern Ireland. I will continue to keep supporting their excellent local work because they continue to fight tirelessly on raising awareness about the importance of organ donation, something that is very close to mine, and my family’s heart.”
Jayne Murray, Public Affairs & Communications Manager, at BHF Northern Ireland said: “I am delighted that we can recognise Suzanne’s commitment to the charity. Her hard work and determination is inspiring and she truly epitomises everything that the charity stands for.’
