Special guest at the ceremony, Health Minister Jim Wells, presented the awards and paid tribute to the vital role played by health and social care staff in the West.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, he said: “This awards ceremony celebrates the commitment and professionalism of health and social care staff. The recipients of the awards are some of the very best people that the health and social care services have, and are examples of how individuals and teams in the HSC are working to deliver excellent services which have the service user at their heart.

“The professionalism, dedication and compassion shown by the people working in health and social care services never ceases to amaze. The number of staff who go the extra mile to look after a patient or client, or help a colleague, or develop better ways of working says volumes about the sort of people who work in health and social care services at all levels. You are our greatest resource and the heart of our HSC family.

“I congratulate all of you who have been nominated for awards and salute your commitment, dedication and professionalism.  I would ask that you continue to lead the way and provide an example to others of what excellence looks like.”

Western Trust Chairman, Mr Gerard Guckian, congratulated all the award winners.

He said: “I agree with the Minister that our staff are our greatest resource.

“The Staff Recognition Awards are about taking a little bit of time out of our busy lives in health and social care provision to say well done to all of our staff who have been nominated by their peers.

“At times of financial constraint it is even more important to emphasise that every day members of staff in the Western Trust go way beyond their job descriptions and indeed our expectations in providing high quality care. The winners and those highly commended represent all that is good about health and social care in this area.

“They have been recognised for improving patient services, involving patients and clients and inspiring their colleagues by their leadership example.

“I am particularly pleased that these awards shine a light on many people who work quietly behind the scenes and in supporting roles to make sure the care delivered is the best it can be– the awards say we value you all as part of the Western Trust team.

“This is a day to be exceptionally proud of the calibre of people

that we have working for our Trust and to celebrate the real difference they make tothe lives of others.”
