The Western Health and Social Care Trust (Western Trust) today welcomed Richard Pengelly, the newly appointed Permanent Secretary for Northern Ireland on his first visit to the Trust.

Welcoming Richard to Altnagelvin, Western Trust Chief Executive Elaine Way, CBE, said: “We are delighted to welcome Richard Pengelly, the new Permanent Secretary to Altnagelvin Hospital and be able to showcase some of the positive work we have been doing to improve our patients’ experience.”

She continued: “This is the Permanent Secretary’s first visit to Altnagelvin and it is a wonderful opportunity to highlight the fantastic work of our staff. We are very proud of our staff and it was a real pleasure for them to meet the Permanent Secretary in person.”

As well as engaging with the Senior Management Team and Senior Clinical Leaders in the Trust he was given an update on the Radiotherapy Project including a tour of the construction site. He also visited the Children’s Home at 84 Chapel Road and spoke to frontline staff in Altnagelvin’s Emergency Department.
