Help for those affected by suicide
Limavady Borough Council is continuing to take active steps to help those affected by suicide here.
In partnership with Roe Valley Residents Association, the Glens Community Association and North West Counselling, Limavady Borough Council received funding from the Public Health Agency (PHA) last year and are now offering a counselling support programme for people who have been affected by suicide.
It allows residents of Limavady Borough to access a counselling programme which will provide a listening ear service, support, signposting, and holistic therapies to anyone who would like to avail of it.
Ursula Coll, Neighbourhood Renewal Strategy Manager said: “It works on a referral bases through the community groups and also through self-referrals.
“The funding provides a fully trained counsellor for either individual counselling support or group support.
“The counsellor will also be attending the Roe Valley Bereaved by Suicide Group to offer support and guidance to the participants.”
Recent Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency statistics confirmed that 60 people from the Limavady Borough Council completed suicide between 1997 and 2011.
