Hidden Treasures at Derry’s Waterside Theatre

The Hidden Treasures Children’s Theatre Festival is a high quality programme of children’s theatre productions aimed at children between the ages of 3-11 years and their families. The Festival brings the best of Northern Ireland based children’s theatre companies, complementing them with the best companies from outside the region including the rest of Ireland, UK and further afield.

It is a Not-for-Profit programme and the only Children’s Theatre Festival in the City! The Hidden Treasures Children’s Festival has quality imaginative events and unique children shows and this year will be hosted from 8th May – 19th May 2011.

There are nine performances of five high quality theatre shows for children, starting with Indigo Moon Theatre presenting THE LOST FOREST, with magic and puppet theatre for ages 5 and over.

The Lost Forest show is puppet theatre for ages 5 and over. The Lost Forest takes a vital concern and turns it into a fun and dynamic show, using Wayang Golek (colourful rod puppets from West Java), stunning rainforest projections, shadow theatre and original music.

European Ballet, one of the most admired and exhilarating touring companies will also be staging COPPELIA during the festival. Award winning and highly respected dancers from Russia, France, Italy, Spain, U.K. etc will perform in this beautiful production. Full of humour and exciting Hungarian dances, the ballet has beautiful scenery and handcrafted costumes, and is a total delight and great entertainment for all ages.

MONSTERS & THINGS by Pignut Productions will run several performances for over ages 3’s+ with Poddi and Jacko who want to win X Factor. Who is the mysterious wizard? Will a small magic book be a help or a hindrance? Join Poddi and Jacko on their magical adventure.

The ever popular puppet OSCAR also returns with OSCAR AND THE QUEST FOR THE UNDERGROUND PRINCESS presented by Mousetale Puppets, who are a professional touring puppet theatre specialising in high quality original productions for children and families.

Local children authors will also be involved with the Hidden Treasures Children’s Festival with BOOK READINGS. Trisha Deery with her book MISS ROSIE RED and Eileen Walsh with her hero ERNIE EDGE will be giving readings, and illustrations will also be on display throughout the Festival in Cascade Gallery.
