For the first time ever, Feis Doire Colmcille will hold their Primary Schools Choir Competition before the traditional Easter week of events.
This year it will instead take place this Tuesday, April 19, at St. Mary’s College on the Northland Road.
Pat McCafferty of Feis Doire Colmcille told the ‘Journal’ this week: “We changed the dates to facilitate the requests of local primary schools in the city and for the first time ever a part of the Feis will therefore be held outside Easter week.
“At Easter, some of the pupils and teachers are not available so as of this year we will try something different to see how successful it is.
Nine local primary schools will take part in the annual competition and Mr MacCafferty is delighted that the event will take place at St. Mary’s College.
“St. Mary’s College have kindly offered us their new premises to hold the competition and we are very grateful to them for this,” Mr MacCafferty added.
“Many local parents will be there to support their children and I’m sure a lot of people will want to come along on the day too. Fortunately, St. Mary’s College has fantastic new facilities and their wonderful new assembly hall will see around 1000 people visit throughout the day.”
Mr McCafferty also revealed that Adjudicator for the occasion will be Peter Doherty, former Head of Music at St. Cecilia’s College.
