An organiser of a Buncrana charity event is hoping thousands of euros will the raked in thanks to the generosity of Hollywood star Michael Douglas.

Gobsmacked Ryan Stewart, who is one of the organisers of the ‘Night at the Oscars’ ball in aid of Letterkenny General Hospital, said he was overwhelmed to receive support from the top-notch actor.

He said he’d sent requests to a number of actors, asking for them for an autograph to be auctioned on the night but couldn’t believe his eyes when Mr Douglas, who is currently battling throat cancer, sent over a unique, never published, signed book.

Mr Stewart said the publication was never released to the general public and was used in the promotional campaign for his film ‘Wall Street - Money Never Sleeps’.

He said: “We were looking for an autograph, but this was even better. He sent us over this unique book which was put together for publicity purposes for the film but never released, He’s signed it too so we’re hopeful it will help us make a small fortune on the night.”

And, in a bizzare twist of fate, another actor who replied to the organiser’s request for autographs was Douglas’s co-star in the 1992 hit film, ‘Basic Instinct’ - Sharon Stone.

She’s sent over an autographed pictured.

Mr Stewart added: “It’s uncanny they both got back in touch with us.

“We’re hoping this will really help us raise some money for the hospital.

“We’ve a few other things up for auction on the night also. There’s a trip to a football match of your choice which includes a flight and accommodation and there’s a one-off piece of jewellery up for auction too.”

The event is being held at the Inishowen Gateway on Saturday April 23, and starts at 7pm. There will be a red carpet arrival and a four-course meal with music from The Goodfellas and Charlene Duffy, along with comedy and drama from Vivid Productions and Studio 47 along with extra special guests.

All tickets purchased will be entered into a draw on the night and tickets costs 40 euro or for a table of ten is 350 euro. Tickets are available from the hotel reception and on 0873525280.
