At the recent AGM of Home Accident Prevention N.I. Foyle, Derry City Council (DCC) representative SDLP DCC candidate Angela Dobbins was proposed and nominated as the new press officer for the organisation.
Speaking to DerryJournal.com, Ms. Dobbins said she was over the moon the appointment.
“I am delighted and honoured to be nominated as a press officer for Home Accident Prevention NI (‘HAP’). I have been on the committee since becoming councillor and I have made every effort to highlight the chosen topics through media avenues.
“I am particularly proud to have been a participant in a group who lobbied Stormont regarding the dangers of blind cords. We have been able to attain a legislation which ensures manufacturers of window furnishing to be responsible for child safety and prevent strangulation with looped blind cords.”
Ms. Dobbins praised the work that HAP carry out in local schools by saying they help to raise awareness about accidents in the home.
“Through HAP we have highlighted the hidden dangers in the home and regularly run competitions in both primary and secondary schools. These competitions raise awareness not only for children but to their parents also.”
