The Roe Valley Arts & Cultural Centre/Ionad Ealaíon agus Cultúir Ghleann na Ró welcomes home internationally acclaimed singer Cara Dillon on Tuesday 27 May, 8pm.
Cara will be performing alongside her full band in her borough home town, presenting some of her world renowned classics and more recent material. Described as one of Ireland’s truly great singers, her staggeringly beautiful voice has the ability to reach inside the soul of a song and imbue material with not only profound sweetness but also poignancy and depth.
Born in local Dungiven, Cara was raised in a close musical family and her musical talent shone through when she began winning awards at a young age. Progressing through folk bands Óige, De Dannan and Equation, she has been hailed as one of the best female vocalists in the world. Her ongoing musical collaboration with husband Seth Lakeman carves new life into ancient material and has produced three critically acclaimed solo albums, including the astoundingly beautiful Hill of Thieves, which scooped the Folk Album of the Year title at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards in 2010.
Cara and her band will be supported on the evening by the very talented Winter Mountain. Hailing from Cornwall and Donegal, this folk duo are often compared to The Fleet Foxes and Simon and Garfunkel.
Desima Connolly, Arts & Cultural Services Officer, comments ‘What a fantastic evening we have in store with a sublime performance by our very own Cara Dillon. It is an event which really honours a supremely gifted local artist who belongs to the Borough so please come along and join us for what promises to be an unforgettable musical experience!’
Tickets cost £21 full and £18 concession and are available from the Box Office on Tel: 028 7776 0650.
