This Sunday’s Foyle Hospice Female Walk/Run looks set to break all records.
Event organiser Noel McMonagle says interest in the 12th annual event is so intense that the closing date for entries has been extended until tomorrow (Saturday).
If you still want to take part in the popular walk/run, you can sign up at the Foyle Hospice Fundraising Centre at Culmore Road (Tel: 02871 359888) or drop into Foyleside Shopping Centre (old Argos store on second floor) where you can collect your entry pack.
However, organisers warn that entries will NOT be accepted on the day of the event.
Now in its 12th year, the walk/run is the “must do” event for women across the North West.
It’s a great way to help your local Hospice while, at the same time, have a bit of craic and, importantly, stay fit.
The annual event has grown into the biggest event for women in Northern Ireland and, uniquely, it has also turned into a “memory walk” with loads of participants walking/running in memory of a loved one or friends. Last year, more than 4,300 women and girls took part in what’s a real fun event with a carnival atmosphere.
The Foyle Female Walk/Run route is just over four miles long, stretching from the Everglades Hotel to Templemore Sports Complex.
Each participant will receive a specially crafted medal, T-Shirt and goodie bag.
All money raised will help care for people in our community living with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses and provide support for families and loved ones.
This year, the organisers are providing transport from the Foyle Valley Railway Museum at Foyle Road. You can park your car in the museum car park or in the nearby car park at Foyle Road.
When you finish at Templemore, buses will be available to bring you back to your car. This will ease traffic congestion at Prehen Road. Buses will run from 12.15 p.m. to 1 p.m.
Foyle Hospice is this year celebrating 25 years of Hospice care in the North West.
