Huge crowds were out in force in Carndonagh on Sunday to support the sponsored walk held in memory of Dennis McLaughlin.

An estimated 200 people arrived in the diamond yesterday afternoon to help raise vital funds for the Donegal Hospice.

Organiser of the walk, Majella McLaughlin, whose husband Dennis was a former patient of the Hospice, said she was over the moon with the level of support she received.

“My husband Dennis was patient in the Donegal Hospice in December 2009 so I had always thought I wanted to do something to raise some money for it, so I thought a walk would be a good place to start as everyone can take part.”

Majella said the walk itself went very well but they are unsure of how much money exactly they raised.

“It was a really brilliant day and I want to thank everyone for coming along and showing their support. There is still money coming in so I don’t know how much we’ve raised but we’re about a couple of thousand euro there already.”
