Hundreds of people attended the funeral of Derry boxer and Olympian Neil McLaughlin yesterday morning.

The 65 year-old, who represented Ireland at the 1972 Olympics in Munich, passed away on Monday after a long illness.

The former boxer was a lifelong republican and when the funeral cortege left his Shantallow home Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness placed a tricolour on his coffin.

Requiem Mass was celebrated in Our Lady of Lourdes, Steelstown, and he was buried afterwards in the City Cemetery.
