Hundreds of householders are without water in the Greysteel area.
Sinn Fein councillor Dermot Nicholl said the areas affected include homes on Vale Road, Lime Road and Dunlade Road.
“It’s really inconvenient for people trying to get ready for Christmas,” said Colr. Nicholl. “I have reported the matter to NI Water, and they tell me they have identified the problem. There is a burst pipe on the Vale Road and teams have been dispatched to deal with the problem. They hope to have supply restored by 5.30pm this evening.”
A spokesperson for NI Water said: “NI Water is aware of a supply disruption in the Vale Road area today (Tuesday 22 December). This is as a result of burst watermains in the local area.
“The NI Water repair team is on site having completed a burst main repair earlier this morning at Foreglen. The situation should be resolved later this afternoon. Customers on higher ground may have to wait slightly longer for their water pressure to increase as the system recharges.
“We are grateful to our customers in the area for their patience while this issue is resolved.Anyone with any queries or concerns about their water supply should contact us via Waterline by dialling 03457 440088.”
