Inishowen musicians head for Italy

Three talented young violinists from Inishowen are leaving this weekend for a week in the Pistoia area of Tuscany, Italy, but they are not there to learn Italian!

Henry Bowles and Alice Gallanagh, both from Buncrana, and Siofra Sloyan, Fahan, along with their musician colleagues in the Donegal Chamber Orchestra will spend their time rehearsing and playing concerts with the Maberliner orchestra as part of an orchestral exchange.

This wonderful opportunity will offer these young musicians the chance to develop their orchestral skills and to experience Italian culture.

The Donegal Chamber Orchestra is an initiative of the Donegal VEC Music Education Partnership.

The chamber orchestra features talented string players from across the county of Donegal and is led by the Hungarian violinist Orsolya Szab (Violin resource tutor with Co. Donegal VEC) under the artistic direction of the Spanish cellist Vctor Ylamo.

The Donegal Chamber Orchestra gives regular concerts in different areas of the county. Recent highlights have included a Joseph Haydn Bicentennial Chamber Music Evening which delighted a large audience at the Regional Cutlural Centre in Letterkenny, in April.

After their Italian exploits, the Orchestra will play a homecoming concert as part of the Earagail Arts festival in Conwal Parish Church, Letterkenny, on the 12th of July, at 8pm. Later in the summer the Donegal Chamber orchestra will play concerts with their Italian colleagues when the Maberliner orchestra makes their return visit to County Donegal.
