While Dr McKeown was announced as the new Bishop of Derry on Tuesday, he will not formally begin his role until next month.

The announcement of Dr McKeown’s appointment was made on Tuesday morning at 11am from Rome and the new Bishop was presented to the public at a short service in St Eugene’s Cathedral which was attended by the Papal Nuncio to Ireland Archbishop Charles Brown, and the Diocesan Administrator, Fr. Francis Bradley.

However, a further ceremony will take place on Sunday, April 6 when Dr McKeown will be formally installed as Bishop of Derry at St Eugene’s Cathedral when, in ecclesiastical parlance, he will take canonical possession of the See.

The motto and crest of the new bishop will be announced at the installation.
