Limavady Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) is encouraging local communities to consider setting up a Neighbourhood Watch scheme in their area.
Limavady PCSP chair Michael Coyle said such schemes make people feel safer.
“This is a very worthwhile scheme that involves neighbours looking after each other,” said Colr. Coyle, “keeping ‘an eye’ on each other’s houses while neighbours are away on holidays, watching out for suspicious activity, reducing burglaries, vandalism and helping other people and the community feel safer in their homes.”
A PCSP spokesperson said the first step in the process is to gauge a level of community interest in having the scheme, and at least 60 percent of households in the proposed area should be willing to participate, to make it workable.
Once accredited, the area will be provided with signs and associated resources in order to make the scheme function.
