Foyle Sailability are inviting people with disabilities to ‘get on the water and give sailing a try’.

Those new to sailing or looking for adventure are advised to come along to the Foyle Marina on June 11th and 12th.

Chair Cathal MacElhatton said: “This is the third year of providing this opportunity for people with disabilities from throughout the north west cross border region.

“The feedback we received from previous events from participants, family members and carers has been very positive.

“Our participants experienced the thrill and excitement of being ‘on the water’ taking part in a sport not always accessible.

“We believe this highlights the need to provide access to all our sporting activities”.

He added: “As a cross border organisation, our aim is to provide access to the sport of sailing and other water-based activities for all.

“Sailing is exciting and the thrill of steering your own boat and going with the ‘wind’ brings out the adventurer in all of us, but particularly for those who do not have that freedom on land.

“I would encourage people with disabilities to give it a try and join us on June 11 and 12 down by the river.”

‘Get on the Water’ is supported by the Loughs Agency’s 2015 Sustainable Development Fund.
