Once again the jazz summer season is in full swing at Strabane’s Alley Theatre as Jazz Gazette performs every Friday night with something to suit everyone.
For the past two weeks jazz lovers have been chilling out on the beautiful summer nights to the sounds of this magnificent five piece ensemble.
Jazz Gazette is the longest established jazz band in the North West. Created by Strabane’s very own Gerard Bradley in the early 1980s, the original line up included Michael Canavan on sax, Mark Bradley aged 14 on trumpet, Ronan Doherty, trombone Gerard Bradley, piano, Ian McGowan guitar, Peter Doherty, bass and Joe Gillespie, drums. They brought the sound of jazz to Strabane and Letterkenny with residencies in the Fir Trees Hotel Strabane and performances in McGinley’s Letterkenny and The Bridge Bar Ramelton.
In recent years Mark, Pete, Aidan and Gerard have been gigging regularly with various jazz combos. They have also all played in the ‘Rat Pack’ orchestra which included sell out performances in Ireland’s major venues. This led to a successful spell in Belfast where for the past three years the lads have been the mainstay of the’ Martin John Simply Swing Big Band’.
“We are delighted to be back in the Alley Theatre with our summer jazz nights”, said Gerard Bradley. “This is the third summer we have played in the Alley and this year we are adding a whole new dimension to the event by moving the gigs from the Café Bar which we had previously played in to the beautifully new cabaret style seating auditorium. Audiences are able to relax and enjoy our music and along with intimate lighting and new stage set up this is the perfect scene for our line up of summer nights. As always audiences we be treated to a mix of jazz, swing and blues numbers and we welcome anyone who wants to come on stage and perform with us.’
The Alley summer jazz evenings continue every Friday night until Friday, August 30. Tickets are £5 and available from the Alley Theatre Box Office on 028 71 384444 or online www.alley-theatre.com
