An after-school club in Greysteel has unveiled a new peace-themed mural staff say promotes a positive message about what they do and about the local community.

The brightly coloured mural is the work of ‘Kids Inn After School Club’, located at the Vale Centre in Greysteel.

The group received funding from the Limavady Borough Council for the project, which involved children from Ballykelly, Broadbridge, Faughanvale, Craigbrack and Eglinton schools.

Positioned at the entrance of the centre, the mural features a children from different schools holding hands against a backdrop of a rainbow and Derry’s Peace Bridge.

Playcare leader, Nuala McKinney, said the project involved workshops about good relations.

“We are extremely proud of the mural. I think it gives a positive message about the group to new parents, and about the community in Greysteel.”

Mural artist, Sean O’Donnell facilitated the project.

“The kids were really hands on, and had design input from the rainbow to the Peace Bridge. The whole ethos is peace and culture, and I’m very proud of the children and their work,” said Sean.

The club, registered with the Western Trust, caters for children aged 4-12. It is holding an open night on May 14 from 6-8pm. The Club will officially launch the mural on the night. Call 71 812253 for information.
