News that road safety measures are to be carried out on the Killea road have been welcomed by Sinn Féin councillors from both sides of the border.
Northland councillor Mickey Cooper and Inishowen colr. Jack Murray had lobbied statutory bodies on both sides of the border after being contacted by local residents who were concerned about road safety.
The representatives liaised with Donegal County Council’s Roads Department, and the DOE Roads Service in Derry.
Welcoming the news of the upgrade, colr. Cooper said; “The success of this initiative demonstrates the logic of a cross-border approach to dealing with issues concerning residents of areas like Killea which, despite its massive growth over the last few years, is still lacking in many basic facilities such as footpaths, proper lighting and other amenities. This is just one initiative of many which we are pursuing to ensure that the area, which is one of the busiest in terms of road traffic in the border area, is safe for residents, pedestrians and motorists.”
