The funeral of a young Derry woman who tragically lost her life in a car crash in Donegal will take place tomorrow (Sunday).
Kathryn Jones (27) from the Ballymagroarty area was travelling on the Letterkenny to Sligo road when the car she was driving was involved in a collision with a lorry.
Emotional tributes to the popular young Derry woman have been flooding in to social media sites over the past 24 hours as relatives, friends and colleagues try to come to terms with what has happened.
Funeral Mass is due to take place at the Holy Family Church in Ballymagroarty at 12.30pm tomorrow, with burial immediately afterwards at Ardmore Cemetery.
Fr. Paddy O’Kane, who is due to officiate at the service, has been comforting the family.
Speaking about the tragedy, he said: “Our hearts go out to the family and their sense of devastation and loss of such a loving young daughter, sister and girlfriend.
“She was very well known, extremely kind and very popular with everyone.
“The whole community is devastated and there is a terrible sense of shock and our hearts go out to the bereaved following this tragic accident.”
Among the tributes and messages of sympathy posted on the Derry Journal Facebook page this weekend was one reading: “So very sad, a beautiful young life taken so early may she R.I.P.”
Another person wrote simply: “Rip beautiful angel.”
Along with her family, boyfriend and friends, Kathryn’s work colleagues at the United Healthcare insurance company in Letterkenny are also said to be devastated by the loss of a much-loved colleague.
Gardai meanwhile have appealed for witnesses to the car crash to come forward.
