International pop music sensation, Lady Gaga, is believed to be the number one choice of act to headline a major two day music festival in Derry in September, sources have suggested.
The Derry Journal exclusively revealed back in April that talks were taking place between Derry City Council (DCC) and international music broadcaster MTV about the possibility of hosting a major two day music festival in the Ebrington site in September.
The festival was confirmed on Monday evening but at the time of going to print no other details had been confirmed.
Well placed sources told the Journal yesterday evening that an announcement could be made as early as next week.
“It’ll be something similar to the way Radio One’s Big Weekend in the sense that there will be an official launch and music fans will be told how and when they will be able to buy tickets.”
The Derry Journal also understands that the contract signed by DCC and MTV ensures that the music broadcaster will endeavour to attract at least one “grade A music star” and in failing that they will then provide three “grade B music stars”.
“It’s all about making sure music fans get what they want. I understand that it will be one grade A music star or three grade B music stars,” said our source.
The MTV concert is due to take place in Derry in September; Lady Gaga commences her European Tour in Istanbul on September 19.
